Open question

This is an open question for anyone, from any year group to answer. What two books would you recommend for other people to read? One must be a picture book.

  4. I have read The Secret Garden many times and really enjoy the film too. Good choice, Bethan! I choose, for my picture book, Mr Benn Diver (in truth, I could choose any of the Mr Benn books because they are such beautifully crafted stories. This is very tricky - choosing a novel - but I think it has to be The Borrowers by Mary Norton. I have lots of favourite novels but this one really lit a spark of imagination, making me wonder (when I was little) if there really could be other worlds I knew nothing about.

    Erin Finnegan

Ooh this was a tough one because there are so many fabulous books to choose from. In the end I settled on Tom's Midnight Garden, by Phillipa Pearce, as this remains one of my all time favourite books (and there are many!!).
A picture book was harder because again such a range to choose from, however I finally decided on Alfie - as I love Shirley Hughes illustrations and books. Check this out at http://alfiebooks.co.uk/allaboutshirleyhughes_otherbooks.asp and see if you agree.
